This Sunday I'm watching Night of the Living Dead and doing red and white stripes on my nails (in celebration of Valentine's Day).
I wasn't really feeling Night of the Living Dead probably because I hate the female lead so much. Her name is Barbara and she is kind of incapable of doing anything.
So in the first scene she is at a graveyard with her brother visiting their father's grave. Randomly, this strange man attacks Barbara and her brother Johnny fights him off. Barbara watches them fight for a lil bit with an "I'm soooo scared" look on her face until scary man pins her brother to the ground. Then she starts running for the car. First of all, you are just going to leave your brother? Really Barbara?
So next she jumps into the car. She notices scary man is approaching, so she locks the doors. OH MY GOSH BARBARA DRIVE AWAY YOU IDIOT!!! But no she just watches scary man try to get into the car. After scary man picks up a rock, smashes her window and tries to grab her, she finally starts driving (at approx 5 miles per hour). Really watch a clip, girl is driving so slow. Magically at this very low velocity she manages to crash into a guard rail (I know I told you she couldn't accomplish anything). So then she jumps out of the car and runs (obviously falling down a lot and taking way too long to get up and like crying and looking helpless and stuff). Barbara, I'm going to be real with you right now, I hate you so much!!
Oh but it gets worse. She finds a house to hide in where some other non-monsters are hiding as well. One of them is Ben. Ben is really awesome. He's strong, he has a plan, he is a leader. So PRO Ben right now! Ben tells Barbara to find wood so that he can board up the windows and save the day! WOHOO! Barbara is not having it. She's like, sorry I can't accomplish any tasks that don't involve me crying and looking pathetic and screaming 'what is going on'.
Then Barbara finally stands up! YAY! Go get that wood girl and save the day!
NOPE! First before she can look for wood she has to explore the house a lil bit and play with this random music box. OH MY GOSH BARBARA!! THE MONSTER ZOMBIE THINGS ARE COMING!! STOP PLAYING WITH THE STUPID MUSIC BOX AND FIND WOOD! GAHH! Finally, she stops playing with the music box and she's like maybe I should go get wood now. She then picks out four pieces of incredibly flimsy wood that will not help Ben at all and brings them to him.
She spends the rest of the movie making this really annoying "I'm so afraid and unable to be awesome" face until finally the zombie monsters eat her. Word.
Well my readings took a much more intellectual approach in their discussion of Night of the Living Dead. Instead of ranting about Barbara being a stupid head, they discuss how the film shows the diminishing importance of human life. In the final scene, the military walks through town to look for survivors and kill any remaining zombie monsters. They walk past the truck that lit on fire killing the young couple, Judy and Tom, and say, "Somebody's had a cookout here." Then they see Ben standing in the house (he's still a non-monster btw). They say, "that's another one for the fire" and kill him thinking he's a monster. After seeing the personal stories of these people, complete disregard and misunderstanding of their lives is painful to watch. Ok this is kind of bumming me out so let's move on to nail polish.
My Colors
(from left to right) Alpine Snow - Matte by OPI & Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It by OPI
First up the Matte.
Mattes are a type of nail polish color that appear shine-less when worn without a top coat. Here's why mattes are awesome: 1. They dry really fast 2. They look weird in a good way
But here's why mattes are not awesome: They chip REALLY easily. A matte polish will usually only last me a day or two.
It's so cool looking though!
After the matte dries (like 5 minutes later), cut out some thin strips of masking tape. Put this tape horizontally through the middle of your nail.
Now it's red time!
Paint the red on your nail.
Now take off the tape.
Wait awhile before you put on the top coat. There will be red streaks on the white part if your nails aren't completely dry. (yes I'm going to use top coat. Even though the matte won't look weird in a good way anymore, it will not chip easily)
WOHOO both hands!
